Buckland Court - Lower Courtyard

Buckland Court and its self catering holiday cottages are ideally placed for all the attractions of this beautiful corner of South Devon.  The southerly location and warm Gulf Stream air ensure one of the mildest climates in the whole of Britain.  The summers are long, autumns warm and winters mild, so that you can enjoy a visit at any time of the year.

The area is one of exceptional beauty and contrast - a rural patchwork of fields, woodlands, rivers, estuaries, rolling hills and moorland which surround historic towns and pretty villages.  Much of the spectacular coastline and countryside has been protected from the ravages of modern development.  Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the South Hams is ideal for short breaks and walking holidays.

Buckland Court - Duck Pond

Buckland Court is located in delightful countryside one and a half miles from the historic village of Slapton, with its world famous nature reserve and three-mile beach that stretches from Torcross to Strete Gate.  The coast road at Slapton is unique, flanked by both the beach and a freshwater lake with an abundance of rare flora and fauna.  Much of the countryside around is leased by the Field Studies Council and listed as an area of special interest.  Slapton Ley Field Centre organises guided walks and talks, and fishing on the Ley.

Slapton village with its winding roadways and picturesque cottages lies about half a mile inland, midway between Kingsbridge (6 miles) and Dartmouth (6 miles).  The Tower Inn, tucked away in the centre of the village, was originally part of the Collegiate Chantry of St. Mary, founded in 1373 by Sir Guy du Brian, standard bearer to King Edward II at the battle of Calais in 1349.  Much of the Chantry Tower still remains and the Tower Inn was built in about 1347 as cottages to house the men working on the monastery buildings.

Buckland Court - Archway to Duck Pond

Slapton is halfway between two of the Westcountry's most popular sailing centres at Salcombe and the River Dart.  The beaches of Blackpool Sands, Lannacombe, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Thurlestone, Burgh Island and Bigbury Bay are within easy reach.  Also Torquay, Brixham, Paignton and Plymouth are easily accessed for a night out.

Kingsbridge, at the heart of the South Hams, is a busy market town only six miles away and the old naval port of Dartmouth with its marinas, quality shops and fine restaurants is about six miles away.  Dartmoor starts about 12 miles to the Northwest, Totnes is about 9 miles away and the traditional resorts of the Torbay area are within half an hour's drive.

Buckland Court self catering holiday cottages, converted to high standard from an old West Country barn complex, are attractively situated around two pretty courtyards.  An archway in the corner opens on to delightful duck ponds and one and a half acres of grounds with badminton/cricket area, plus built-in barbecue.

Location of Buckland Court

All the cottages are carpeted throughout and are well furnished.  The beds are of good quality and the kitchens are well equipped with gas hobs, cooker hoods, built-under fan ovens, fridges and microwave ovens.  The bathrooms have a shower over the bath, wash hand basins and WCs.  All cottages have gas fires; central heating and electricity are included in the price.  Duvets are supplied, linen can be hired and the beds made up.  Towels can also be hired.  There is a laundry room and payphone and all cottages are equipped with an iron and ironing board.  Cots and high chairs are also available for hire.  All have TVs and there is ample space for parking.  Some cottages offer Broadband Internet access (RJ45 not Wi-Fi or wireless internet).
