Beeches Cottage at Buckland Court is the largest of the eight Lower Yard cottages converted from the original farm buildings grouped around an attractive courtyard.

The cottage has gas fired centrally heating and sleeps six to eight adults (or children of course!) in three bedrooms with full-size beds, and a high quality sofa bed.

There are duvets on all beds.  Bed Linen & towels can be hired.

Downstairs, a striking feature of the cottage is its spacious (34' x 17') open plan living and dining room.  The dining area has an Oak laminated floor and a fully equipped kitchen, including microwave, freezer and dishwasher.  There is a step down to the large living area, with two big three seater sofas (one being a full-sized sofa-bed) and three armchairs. There is a TV, DVD and stereo system.

Upstairs a huge picture window looks out from the landing over the orchard and gardens.  The master suite comprises a large double bedroom with sofa, TV and a new Victorian style wainscoted en suite bathroom.  The bedroom has views over the duck ponds, the gardens and across rolling countryside towards Dartmoor.  There are two further good sized twin bedrooms each with two 3ft beds and a second newly fitted bathroom.  Both the family bathroom and the en suite have showers over the baths.

Beeches Cottage's spacious living and dining accommodation means that it can be used in conjunction with neighbouring cottages as the base for larger parties and yet it is cosy enough for intimate family holidays.

Outside, Beeches Cottage opens on to a pleasant courtyard with a raised lawn area in the middle with table and benches, ideal for al fresco lunches or a quiet evening drink.  There is also a bench seat just outside the front door.

There is a large communal laundry room with coin operated washing machine, dryer and freezer for the use of guests.

Where to Visit from Beeches

Dartmoor

A visit to Devon would not be complete without seeing Dartmoor National Park covering over 360 acres in the heart of the county with its high moor land and Tors rising to over 2000 feet.  On a clear day it is possible to see over miles of beautiful countryside and to the sea from the top of one of the Tors.

Many standing stones form ancient circles with the famous Dartmoor ponies roaming free, keeping the grass shorn to create an area that lends itself to outdoor pursuits such as horse riding, walking, fishing and climbing.

One of the bogs on Dartmoor, Fox Tor Mires, is famously the supposed inspiration for Great Grimpen Mire in Conan Doyle's novel The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Visit the Bowerman's Nose, a stack of weathered granite situated on the northern slopes of Hayne Down, about a mile from Hound Tor.  With a little imagination, you can see the profile of a human face.  Legend says that it is a hunter who blundered into a witches' coven and they turned him into stone as a revenge.

Small hamlets and villages are scattered across the moor, many hidden in deep valleys.

Widecombe in the Moor is noted for it's annual Widecombe fair with "Uncle Tom Cobley and all".

The beautiful Becky Falls is a short distance from Manaton and on the southern edge of the Moor is Buckfast Abbey home of Benedictine monks famous for beekeeping, tonic wine and stained glass workshop.
