Oak Cottage at Buckland Court is the largest of the courtyard cottages skilfully rebuilt as new from the original farm buildings some 10 years ago using traditional local materials.

The three newer cottages are grouped around a quiet courtyard.  Oak blends in with the older lower courtyard cottages and shares the use of all the facilities enjoyed by these properties.  Also, being newer, it is furnished and equipped to a high standard and level of comfort.  Modern insulation and double glazing ensure this cottage is ideal for off-season use.

Downstairs

Oak Cottage - Lounge

Approached through a courtyard, the front door leads into a hall with a tiled floor and plenty of room for coats and boots.  Off the hall is a large shower room.  A notable feature of the cottage is its spacious open plan kitchen and dining area seating for 14 with child's high chair.  The kitchen is fully equipped with a Rangemaster having gas hob and electric oven.  Also a microwave, fridge, fridge-freezer, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier.  The large lounge has a Freeview TV, video and DVD as well as ample comfortable furniture.

Games area TV, snooker/table tennis games table.

Upstairs

Upstairs there are five bedrooms.

The Master bedroom has a 5ft double bed with en suite shower.  Bedroom 2 has a 5ft bed & wash basin with ample room for a travel cot - provided.  Bedrooms 3 & 4 have twin beds, one zip linked.  Bedroom 3 has a wash basin.  A fifth bedroom has a double bunk under and single over (limited clothes hanging space).

Most rooms have windows overlooking the courtyard apart from the bunk bedroom, the smaller twin bedroom, bathroom and shower rooms.  There are duvets on all beds and bed linen is provided with the beds made up in advance.  Towels can be provided at extra charge.

Oak Cottage's spacious living and dining accommodation means that it can be used in conjunction with neighbouring cottages or Buckland House as the base for larger parties and yet it is cosy enough for intimate family holidays.

There is gas central heating.  Gas and electricity are all included in the price.

There is allocated parking space for 2 cars within the courtyard itself with additional parking behind Buckland House stable block.

The free Broadband internet connection is via a RJ45 network socket (no Wi-fi available).  Please remember to bring your own RJ45 patch cable.

Where to Visit from Oak

Dartmouth Harbour

The Dart Valley

This unique Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is particularly popular with sailors, artists and fishermen and those who enjoy the peaceful tranquillity in a truly rural environment.

Delightful riverside villages such as Dittisham, Tuckenhay, Cornworthy, Stoke Gabriel and Ashprington whose unspoilt tree lined banks, secret creeks and countryside sweeping down to the river have been inspirational to many writers, ornithologists and photographers.

Watch the spectacle of the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta which takes place annually over three days at the end of August.

Take a cruise from Dartmouth to Totnes and make it a circular journey by taking the open top bus between Totnes and Paignton and returning on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway.

Dartmouth Ferry

Boat trips from Dartmouth take you up the river past Stoke Gabriel to the bohemian market town at Totnes.  With its medieval winding streets, historic town walls and ancient castle Totnes makes for an interesting visit.  The host of cafes restaurants and alternative independent shops are a delight to browse for a while.

Twice a week there is a market offering second-hand books, handmade clothing, antiques, musical instruments and local organically produced products.

After your purchase, you may well be offered 'Totnes pounds' as part of your change.  Totnes was the first town in Britain to introduce its own local alternative currency.  Many shops and businesses in the town accept the Totnes pound as payment.  It is designed to help reduce "food miles" while also supporting local firms.  The scheme is part of the Transition Towns concept — a grassroots network of communities that are working to build resilience in response to peak oil, climate destruction, and economic instability.

Some recent comments from our guests —

"We had a wonderful stay at Oak Cottage, a very clean, well presented house that made us feel very welcome and comfortable.  Simon the caretaker was very pleasant and helpful.  The house was well equipped and had everything we could possibly need and more!  We shall definitely be returning to Buckland Court in the future."
Mrs S Wilkins on 29th Aug 2011

"Oak Cottage is excellent for large parties.  There were 11 of us, with ages ranging from 13 to 84 and the layout is such that we never felt that we were on top of each other.  The games table was a hit with the teenagers, especially when the weather wasn't very good and the dogs enjoyed walks in the grounds.  The house is very well equipped with just about everything you need and more besides.  The situation is very tranquil but the narrow lanes around the property are not for the faint-hearted - and leave the SatNav at home!  I would have no hesitation in recommending Oak Cottage especially for large mixed groups and the caretaker is delightful and only too happy to help, even sorting out a battery charger when we had a flat battery."
Mrs M Jones on 22nd Aug 2011

"We had a lovely time in this wonderful part of Devon.  The caretaker was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.  The house was spacious and well laid out, ideal for a group of adults - we were 9.  The grounds were lovely to sit in of an evening and well kept.  The BBQ was a great bonus."
Mrs J Anthony on 15th Aug 2011

"We have just enjoyed a week at Oak cottage from 7th - 14th August - we being 10 adults & 2 toddlers and we were amazed at how much room there was.  The lounge area is huge as is the kitchen.  The bedrooms were a good size with only the bunk room being a bit small.  The family bathroom was spacious and the shower room and en-suite shower room were both a good size.  We were all impressed with the property and really enjoyed our stay there."
Mrs B Horsley on 16th Aug 2010

"The property had everything we could possibly need and this was amazing with a large family to cater for.  We had a super holiday and enjoyed the beaches and other places we visited, we will certainly come again"
Mr J Hanks on 27th May 2010

"We had one of the best family holidays we have ever had here.  With nine of us staying at the cottage we needed to have space to split up at times, and be able to all get together at times.  The cottage had the right space to allow this and there was plenty to do to keep all the children happy.  It was in just the right location for easy access to all that the South Hams has to offer."
Mr J Halls on 17th Apr 2010
